| Note: George Keenan wrote the article on the Keenan family history which appeared in the Tumut and Adelong Times in 1949. In the article he wrote of himself: |
"The eldest son (of Aaron Keenan), George, has in recent years played a prominent part in many public organisations in the Batlow district and for the last two years has been one of the representatives for his Riding on the Tumut Shire Council." |
| Without the newspaper article by George Keenan this genealogy site would never have come into existence. My father (Wilfred Walter Keenan) kept a copy of the article and when I came across it (in the 1980s) I was inspired to find out more. George Keenan's sister, Ivy Keenan (married name, Morris), also had a keen interest in such things and in maintaining contact with her Irish great-grandparents. |
George Keenan conceived the idea of the Batlow Pioneers' Night, which has been held annually in October since 1944. (Source: Ben Atkinson, Tumut and Adelong Times, 28/10/1952, Vol. 92, No. 42.) |
George's grandson, Brian Keenan, has supplied me with more information about George and his wife Nora. To see Brian's collection of photographs, click HERE. |
